09-04-2020

The MB Crusher MB-R700 drum cutter on a urban construction site in Gironde working to extend line A of the Bordeaux Métropole tramway to Mérignac airport.
The twin header is grinding the asphalt and tracing the route of the new tramway. A large-scale project which represents the construction of 5 kilometers of single track between the "Quatre Chemins" station and the Mérignac airport, through the city center.

What are the benefits that MB Crusher hydraulic cutter provided on this urban site?

What are the benefits that MB Crusher hydraulic cutter provided on this urban site?

  • drastic reduction of noise pollution in work areas;

  • no discomfort for the people living in the areas;

  • traffic flowed regularly;

  • reduction of ground vibrations, making it possible to eliminate cracks;

  • precision in the cutting and milling process even at deeper stages;

  • side walls of the excavation remain smooth and to precise measurement.

What are the economic benefit?

  • grinded material is reused on site with a huge costs saving for the contractor;

  • elimination of the excavated material haulage out the site;

  • minimization of material transported in to fill the pipeline;

  • volume of the cutting area is minimized, due to the precision of the grinder, speeding the entire process.

Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport is the hub of a series of ongoing urban projects, which will take place until 2023 and will create:

  • new infrastructure;
  • new buildings;
  • redevelopment of car parks;
  • the creation of four to five new stations;
  • and the arrival of the tram to the airport terminal.

It is on the latter that the MB Crusher MB-R700 hydraulic cutter worked to grind the asphalt and create the new tramway line extension.
Today the airport is only reachable by car, shuttle or local buses but to facilitate access for both travellers and airport staff, while reducing road traffic, an extension of Line A is on the way.

The MB-R700 cutter performed with exceptional precision in the grinding process, the flow of traffic continued undisturbed, and also the residents did not face any inconvenience, it was an essential tool in this project.

Designed with a unique Direct Drive Twin Motor System that permits the milling of any material whilst achieving high production rates, and the Power Boost System that gives instantly more energy to the grinding head that needs more power.

The MB-R700 is suitable for any brand of excavators from the 6 to 13 tons.
